Daniel T. Willingham is a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia, with a Harvard doctorate in cognitive psychology and an early research career on the brain basis of memory. Since 2002 he has written the "Ask the Cognitive Scientist" column for American Educator, translating research for teachers; President Obama appointed him to the National Board for Education Sciences in 2017.
